Rwanda for me was a place to rest and recover.
Having spent a full 3 months exploring Kenya and Tanzania, i was ready to lie back and rest for a while and Rwanda turned out to be the best place to do that.
Granted I wasn’t able to explore everything on my bucket list because i also had a lot of work to catch up on however, I found so many gems on my visit which I believe is worth sharing here.
As you may have already learnt, Rwanda is very safe country to travel to. In fact, it is one of the cleanest and safest destinations in Africa. If you don’t mind being stared at very openly by strangers for apparently no good reason, you will love Rwanda! Lol. You can tell I obviously minded quite a bit!
I spent some time in Lake Kivu, Kigali and Musanze where you will find the infamous mountain gorillas.
Kigali
I spent my time in Kigali mostly eating healthy, going on long walks and picnicking.
The weather was always so pleasantly cool and just perfect for long walks.
Kigali is a very green city and I absolutely loved being there. They definitely have come a long way since the Rwandan Genocide. The atmosphere still remains somewhat sober in Rwanda but i still loved it.
Musanze
I only spent a few days in Musanze so I will try to say what I did see there. This city is surrounded by about 5 volcanoes so it doesn’t get a lot of sunlight. I had initially planned to see the gorillas but at almost $1000 per person i decided not to bother. Instead i enjoyed a lovely day exploring the farms directly underneath the volcanoes.
I learnt so much about the people and the land surrounding the Volcanoes. Inhabited mostly by farmers, the land is very fertile and productive.
It was just great to learn how to greet the people and show respect while visiting their land.
I hear the gorillas are awe inspiring to see. I definitely think you should book a gorilla tour if you can afford to.
Kivu
Rwanda is a land locked country but they do have some very beautiful lakes one of which is Lake Kivu.
My time in Kivu was lovely as i booked a resort with rooms offering direct access to the lake. The experience was quite restful and beautiful and i cannot recommend it enough!
If you’re looking to visit Rwanda i cannot recommend it enough.
Let me know if you need a travel planner because that is precisely what i do! Haha
Cheers!
