.

I have always dreamt of visiting Italy. Something about this country just seemed so magical and romantic to me so when I got the opportunity to visit earlier in the year, it was a dream come true.

On this itinerary, I visited Rome, Amalfi Coast, Milan and Lake Como simply because I really wanted to focus on the Italian Riviera. If you know anything about me, then you know I go where the water is. Visiting Lake Como and Amalfi was therefore a no brainer for me.

Italy is a country I wish I had slow travelled in. It is a place you need to patiently savour, with every experience and magnificent sight dutifully tucked away in your memory, to be relished and enjoyed at a later date.

Anyway, i digress. This was a very short trip so I couldn’t stay as long as i would have preferred.

Getting To Lake Como

First i booked a train ride from Rome to Milan and then from Milan, i took another train which was much shorter to Lake Como.

My hotel was located in Varenna which was a very quaint and pretty part of Lake Como and I absolutely adored the views of the lake from here.

My first impression of Lake Como was that it was quite tiny! Maybe because I travel a lot within Africa and I’m used to a lot of space, but i thought Lake Como was cramped and crowded.

That was my first impression. My second impression was that it was a stunning and pretty island with such marvelous ‘holidayish’ energy, if you know what I mean.

If you could somehow find a way to ignore the crowd and the very narrow streets, you will find Lake Como to be as charming and as pretty as all the travel blogs say it is!

One of my favorite experiences here was boating on the lake and visiting some of the luxury villas on the lake as well as some of the different islands aside from Varenna.

Lake Como was definitely beautiful and certainly romantic. I intend to visit again very soon but my first impression for now is that Lake Como may be slightly overrated as a holiday destination.
