Malta was by far my favourite country to visit in Europe. This tiny island on the Mediterranean was as magical and as enchanting as it gets.

Malta used to be part of Spain and Italy many years ago but they gained independence in 1964 and have since been a sovereign nation. It is the smallest country in the EU and can be found south of Sicily Italy and North of Tunisia, in the part of the Mediterranean sea that separates Italy from Africa.

I knew I was going to love this island even before I stepped foot in it and I was not disappointed.

If there was ever a country that’s manged to retain it’s personality in spite of a booming tourism industry, that country is definitely Malta.

My stay in Malta was not as long as I would have liked it to be but I tried to see as much as I could. Malta consists of 3 inhabited islands namely Malta, Gozo and Comino.

Of these 3 islands, I was able to visit just 2 although with a little more effort i could have visited them all because Malta is quite small and easy to explore. It is one of those places where no place is really too far to get to and I really loved that.

When it comes to getting the best bang for your bucks, Malta is also very high up on that list. You can get to do so much with so little. I managed to pack in a city tour, a wine tasting tour, a Comino island tour and a three cities tour( VittoriosaSenglea and Cospicua)

Of all the things I loved about Malta, my top 3 were;

  1. The Beaches
  2. The Architecture
  3. The People

The Beaches

The beach I visited was on the island of Comino and it was riveting. I got there with a ferry from the mainland and really did not know what to expect. What I found however was one of the clearest, most beautiful turquoise blue waters I have ever seen. The downside though is that it was very crowded.

The Archiecture

You don’t have to be an architecture buff to see that there is something very unique and special about Malta. The beautiful doors, brightly coloured shutters and narrow streets, have a way of just charming even the most uncultured visitor.

The People

I found the Maltese people to be extremely merry, hospitable and kind.

They posses such a simple and honest way of life that I found to be so charming.

They love to have fun and they love their island just the way it is. The best advice I can give to anyone visiting Malta is to be respectful of the people and their culture.

Malta is not one of the more popular tourist destinations in Europe and I think I know why. The life here is more simple, less flashy and definitely more authentic. To people like me, it is easily one of the best countries in Europe for a holiday.

If your taste in European holidays is however more sophisticated and luxurious, then you should definitely consider other destinations.

But if you want magic, charm and authenticity, then head over to Malta.
